-----------

You know what annoys me?

I was reading a photography book the other day; yes, the word photography is emphasized for a reason. It had some helpful tips on light and filters and such, but what really bugged me, like a caterpillar, was the fact that most of the photos in the book were bland, with no real feeling; technically correct, but bland.

It seems as though people have forgotten that the rules of photography aren't really rules at all, but guidlines to be considered and not religiously followed.

I ate a red apple today, and I hated it. They are so bland and tasteless compared to the granny smiths that I usually eat.

Also, I was thinking today and I came up with what I think is an awesome saying: "Nothing is ever broken, it simply just can't meet the requirements of what it was designed to do anymore. A fallen tree can be used as a bridge. A smashed bottle can be used as a stabbing device. Nothing is ever broken."

On with the feature, this time it's black and white photography!

Vampiric-Romance

A good portrait that would have been hard to get right, what with that contrast. Maybe the light was a little too harsh but it works for me.

VitezKoja

A good attempt at a shot that could be classified as a bit too cliché. You should really crop out the left most bit of wire that hangs half in and half out of the picture. To me, the focus is a little bit off, too. The focus should really be on the second bit of wire from the left. That text is a bit distracting too ... I know you want to identify the picture as yours and protect it from being stolen, but it does detract from the image.

ElenionTolto

I was going to say that this picture needs a bit more light, but I decided that I like it the way it is ... it retains the spooky mood. You cut off a bit of the tower thing at the left which you could have fixed by panning up ... but that would have ruined the shot, I think. It might have been better with a higher vantage point. I love it, though.

Flynn-the-cat

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was clouds, but they're flames. I think it's interesting that you've captured something so colourful and intense and turned it into a monochrome image so effectively. Well done.

Goodfoot42

I like this one quite a bit ... the motion captured in the leaves and the detailed reflection. The only thing that bothers me is that the picture leans a bit to the left.

misaje

Some might say it's cliché, but I still like it, particularly the way everything's perfectly exposed; the dark clouds, the boat and the ground.

cantstoprunning

This made me chuckle, always a good sign. Maybe you could lighten the right side a bit but other than that it's pretty good.

WendyW

Nice composition, but it's definately overexposed. Someone commented on the picture saying to increase the contrast, but the contrast wouldn't do much to fix the brightness on its own ... just make the white whiter and the darker bits darker, which will make it all out of whack. The only thing you could do is lower the curves and then increase the contrast, but it might not do much, you've lost a lot of detail in the bright parts. Best thing would be to go back and shoot this again.

anarchiekueken

It took me a few seconds to work out that it's actually two shots, which is good because it makes people think about how you did it and what it means. Good balance of the contrast.

And it appears as though I was tagged by the most wonderful (not any more, lol) Kate :icongame-breaker:

What this tagging means is that I should post eight random (and in brackets it says 'hopefully helpful', which I think is awesome alliteration) facts about myself, then tag another eight people. I personally don't like these taggy things but I'm going to post eight facts of myself and then tag no people. Ha. How do you like them apples! If you say you like red ones I will throw cats at you.

Fact the first: I am currently writing a short story that I may post to deviantART.

Fact the second: I want to go for a holiday on my own in Tasmania.

Fact the third: My birthday is on Wednesday (send me money please, hehehe).

Fact the fourth: I don't particularly like birthdays anyway.

Fact the fifth: I despise odd numbers.

Fact the sixth: My favourite number is 24. It is even, the numbers add and multiply to even numbers, and it is twice the number of the day that I was born on.

Fact the seventh: The sunrise this morning was bland as bland could be.

Fact the eighth: I need a cup of tea.
